Bishop Ahern N.S. Newsletter
September 16th – September 22nd 2024
A Thuismitheoirí,
I would like to welcome you all but especially the children back to Bishop Ahern this September. I would in particular like to welcome our new junior infant class to our school. The following are a few timely reminder about the little things, which help the smooth running of the school.
Please read and keep for reference for this school year.
School Sundries
Thanks to those who have paid the School Sundries. We ask that any outstanding monies be paid by the end of September. If you wish to spread the cost of this over time, the Aladdin payments facility allows for this. Please ensure you have
“Push notifications enabled” on the Aladdin App in order to receive all communication through the school.
School Drop-off and Collection
Please take care when dropping and collecting children at collection and drop off times. Please do not perform U- turns in front of the school as this may lead to an accident.
Morning Drop Off – The children will be supervised from 8.50am each morning. Before this time, the children should not be on the schoolyard.
Important School Notices & Reminders
- Dogs: Dogs should not enter the school grounds for a variety of reasons. Thank you for your cooperation on this.
- Roll Call: Class roll call will take place at 10am each morning. We are very proud of our attendance record and attendance is closely monitored. Please remember that it is necessary to inform the school through the Aladdin App of reason for absence. Parents will be notified when a child misses 15 days. The school is obliged to report to TUSLA when 20 days have been missed. If you have any concerns in this regard, please get in touch with us.
- Healthy Eating: We operate a healthy eating policy in the school and we ask that treats be kept to Fridays. Please do not send in treats to mark birthdays.
- Nuts: All nuts and nut products are prohibited in all classes as we have a number of students with nut allergies.
- Meetings: We value the supportive relationship, which exists between teachers and parents in our school. If possible, please meet your teacher by prior appointment. This can be done through the office or by sending the teacher a message through Aladdin.
- Mobile Phones: Mobile Phones are prohibited in our school and should only be brought to school in exceptional circumstances.
- Sickness / Covid: If your child is presenting with flu, covid or any other infectious symptoms then they should remain at home until the symptoms have passed.
Parents, Thank you all sincerely for taking the time to read this lengthy note. We look forward to working together throughout the school year. Your continued cooperation in all school matters is greatly appreciated by all school staff.
Warm regards,
Billy O Connor

School Hot Meals
We are very excited to have this facility in our school and It is vital that we have the full support of the school community to ensure the children try new foods, accept healthier foodstuff, change their orders regularly and act responsibly around food
waste.
A few items to note;
- The app allows you to order up to a week in advance.
- A “default” meal is provided if you do not order.
- The cut off time for your order is 36 hours before delivery
- The service is provided in the school so on days that the children are off school e.g. for school tours it is not available so children will need to bring their own lunch.
- If there is an early finish e.g. on Tuesday 11 June lunch will be provided either for small break or to take with them.
- The school is able to edit the calendar for days that lunch is not offered and a warning symbol appears over the date on your child’s dashboard. It does not stop you doing an order it just will not be delivered.
- If your child is going to be absent for a period of time it is possible to also to edit their calendar for absences so that an order is not delivered.
Taekwondo
We are delighted that the school will have a new after school activity this year. Darren Buckley Coach will teach classes Friday after school. For further information, please contact Darren Buckley on 083-1711119 to secure your child’s place.
